Poor Balochistan security situation: NA body summons intelligence agencies on 29th

ISLAMABAD: In the wake of deteriorating security situation in Balochistan and murder of the granddaughter of Nawab Akbar Bugti, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence on Friday summoned intelligence agencies to brief it on February 29.

Unidentified armed people gunned down the wife of MPA Bakhtiar Domki, his daughter and their driver early on Tuesday in Karachi. A strike had been observed in major cities of Balochistan against the tragic incident.

"Representatives of Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Investigation Bureau, Special Branch and others should be invited to appear before the committee on February 29 to brief it in-camera," Azra Fazal Pechuho, who chaired the committee meeting, said.

The committee also discussed illegal confinement, threats, and damage to the property by police of Arshad Ali Rind, the PIA deputy shift station manager in Karachi.

The inspector general of Sindh Police (IGP) and senior PIA and Defence Ministry officials attended the meeting.

The IGP told the committee that the provincial Home Department had conducted a thorough inquiry into the incident. He also presented copies of the suspension order of the accused SHO and DSP before the committee.

The committee was told that the suspended officials had sought an unconditional apology from Arshad Ali Rind, adding that the victim had granted apology. However, the committee sought inquiry reports from the Home Department on a fortnightly basis. It also recommended that both the accused police officials should be demoted to a junior post. Azra Fazal Pechuho said that the PIA should not delay its flights for any VIP, VVIP or any other important personality. online
