 Two more RVSN divisions to receive Yars missile systems - ministry

 MOSCOW: Two more divisions of the Russian Strategic Missile Troops (RVSN) will start being armed with the newest Yars missile system with the RS-24 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) as of 2012, RVSN spokesman Col. Vadim Koval told Interfax-AVN.

 "The year 2012 will see the completion of re-arming the second regiment of the Teykovo division (Ivanovo region) with Yars mobile missiles and the start of the work of rearming the Novosibirsk and Kozelsk divisions with this system," Koval said.

 The Kozelsk division (Kaluga region) will get the silo-based version of the Yars system, he said.

 In 2011, the first regiment in Teykovo was fully armed with Yars missiles, Koval recalled. In December, another regiment within the same division was deployed with Yars missile as part of the regiment's mobile command post and two missile divisions.

 More missile troops are due to be re-armed with Yars missiles in the future, the officer said.

 The Yars missile system has an intercontinental range (of up to 11,000 kilometers). Its missile, RS-24, is fitted with a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle warhead.
