Dear Sir, AOA
I have been an avid reader of your articles in Pakistan Defence Journal and various other publications. Till 2002 I was on your mailing list and somehow I lost contact with you. I have been friends with the Effendi family since my mere existence (I was probably 3 yrs. old). My father Brig (Retd) Syed Sajid Hussain Shah was Col. (Retd) Sardar M.Y. Effendi's course mate. I came across your blog recently and found a picture of Uncle Effendi and his family tree. I called Ahad Effendi yesterday and requested for some of Uncle Effendi's pictures and some information. I loved Uncle Effendi more than any of my 'blood' Uncles.
I agree with you 100% that Uncle Effendi would have made a great General of Pak Army and finally a great statesmen if he had been promoted, but we both know that Uncle Effendi was not like Rahimuddin or other generals of Zia Era. I still cannot muster courage to add word "late" before Uncle Effendi's name as I always believed Uncle Effendi is indestructible and will be there always for us. I still cannot believe he is gone and no longer with us (Inlluhuwainullahrajaoon). May Allah SWT elevate his DARJAAT and give him the most exalted place in heaven (eternal abode) which he truly deserved. May Allah SWT give enough patience and solace to Auntie, Ahad, Ali and rest of the family plus his bereaving friends to come to terms with his unbearable loss. Amin !! Alas there are not many people left like him in this world.
I am writing an ode to the memory of this great man Col. Sardar M.Y. Yahya Effendi whom I had the pleasure to know very closely as I spend considerable time in Effendi household while growing up. I wanted to get your permission foremost to publish Uncle Effendi's picture on my blog and some material from your blog, and hence get in published in local DFW area newspapers. As another request I would like to get the picture of Uncle Effendi when he was GSO2 in MO Directorate which you mention in your blog but I could not find. Also if you have any other information please email it to me. It will help me dearly to piece together some information to this great man's legacy.
Please add me to your mailing list again.
With Profound regards
